Weekend Away

Guess its the middle of the week, but just to note that everyone had a good weekend away. Migo partied with Jess' crew, and was equal parts crazy play thing, and cuddle-butt. After some good exersize, he's a great cuddly dude. But when he's in PLAY PLAY PLAY mode, he's a tough nut to get to settle down. Also, there were no guarding incidents over the weekend! That means the combination of training and firm boundaries is clicking. Of course, he's still a teenage boy, and I can see him trying to inch his way towards 'the boundaries' to test where they are, but a swift kick to the ego and he's back to 'good boy' for at least a couple of hours. Teenage boys! Still, he's the biggest crybaby when he gets in trouble.

Migo playing with Ralph, an intact french bulldog all the other dogs can't stand.
He even puts up with the special ones :)

Zephyr spent the weekend with Josh as well as bits and pieces with Miranda and Dan, Kaiser's people. Kaiser was REALLY happy to have another dog in his home, but let's just say -he's also a teenage boy dog! They got along well though and Zephyr put up with him really well. (Hmm, if only that could translate to putting up with Beckett :P). Zephyr was cuddly, a good walker, an overall nice, easy-going, calm companion. He was very sad when we left though -apparently he looked for us for 15-20 minutes before he started to settle-, and when he got back he was a whirlwind of "OMG, I'm HOME." Home for now old fart, someday, maybe not anytime soon, but someday, you will find your real home.

DimSum went and hung out with her sister, (Chowmein, now Lucy) as well as Midas the other resident dog. She was predictably shy with the people at first, and the sisters didn't exactly get along for the first little while. I think Lucy is quite content to have her people mostly to herself! (Midas lives with their son downstairs, so Lucy is almost like an only child who shares a yard.) DimSum showed herself to be more of a people dog in the end (indeed she is, she's very dog social, but she'd much rather hang with her person.) She doesn't overly care about meeting new dogs either. A little stuck up people dog!

Everyone got along, and pictures say she obviously enjoyed her stay very much :)

Relaxing after some play time.

Sisters in the field on the acreage. Lucy is SO much thicker, especially through the face.
Almost all grown up :) I think DimSum takes after mum more, and Lucy after dad more.

Midas the shep mix takes both the girls on!

We also had a great meet and greet last night for DimSum on a five acre property in Metchosin. The couple rent a sweet little cabin, and we met with the landlord too, who is a vet in town. DimSum did VERY WELL. It helped that Colin, the 'man of the house' has a beard like Jerrad's. She was giving kisses within minutes, and following them around their cabin without any prompting. It was one of those moments where the dog seems to 'know'. Granted, lately for whatever reason there's been a lot of false starts, so although I'm hopeful, I'm not even looking at the chickens, (counting them is far, far off). We have another meet and greet with her on Thursday though. So I have my fingers crossed she finds her special home for the weekend :)

And Jas also did well at Sherry's. She didn't do so well at the baseball game (the crack of the bat had her running for cover every time) but she did well overall. She was predictably pacey, kind of whiny for awhile, but she needs to learn how to feel safe inside new places, and it takes time, and patience. Cecily (another of the Island Dogz pack of people) came to visit and drop off another dog in Vic, and Jasmine jumped into her lap! (Now if that isn't a sign, I don't know what is, because Jas has NEVER jumped into anyone's lap here ever.) Cecily is a little smitten. We've half-decided that if Jas doesn't have any interest by the end of the month, Cecily might step in to foster her. Cecily lives up in Parksville, where there are lots of quieter, retired homes and some land -the ideal home for Jas-, so it might be that she needs a change in location to truly get the home she needs. Not kicking her out or anything, I just want to give her the best chance she has. And, at eight years old, she's not getting any younger or more adoptable...

I need new batteries for the camera, but will hopefully start getting more pictures soon. I get lazy after they've been here awhile.
